Electric scooter regulations vary by country and city. However, in general, electric scooters are subject to similar rules as bicycles when it comes to road safety.

In France, regulations for electric scooters were strengthened in 2019:

Self-service electric scooters are not allowed on sidewalks and must be driven on cycle paths or on the road

➤ Electric scooters traveling on public roads must be restricted to a maximum speed of 25 km/h.

➤ Users must wear a helmet

➤ Users must be at least 14 years old .

➤ It is also forbidden to carry a second person on an electric scooter.

➤ Electric scooters must also be equipped with an efficient braking system, front and rear lights and a horn.

➤ It is forbidden to drive while wearing headphones, earphones or holding a phone.

If the rules are not followed, electric scooter users can be fined. Therefore, it is important to familiarize yourself with the regulations in force in your city before using an electric scooter.
