On May 1, 2013, an eco-contribution was set up in France for the management of used furniture (furniture, bedding and box springs). From October 1, 2018, the eco-contribution also applies to duvets, pillows, bolsters, sleeping bags. The scope of the eco-contribution was last extended to many other products on January 1, 2020: baskets, boxes, bathroom and kitchen accessories, plant pots, cable covers, phone/computer stands, trash cans, mirrors with storage, hangers, rods , etc. These amounts are entirely donated to Eco-mobilier, an organization approved by the State, and dedicated to the development of solutions for the collection, recycling and recovery of these used products. Framed by law, the eco-contribution applies in the same way to all new furniture, bedding, lighting, textiles and accessories throughout France. The amount is defined according to a scale common to all manufacturers and distributors and corresponds to the cost of waste management of these used products.
